Last week I had the amazing opportunity of going to the Jo Loves store in London and while I was there I did the “candle shot” experience. With that experience I got to create my own personalized candle based off of the “bases” and “shots” that Jo Loves have to offer. This was by far one of the most luxurious and “posh” things I have ever done in my life.
Once I arrived at the Jo Loves store, Adam, who would be guiding me through the fragrance experience, greeted me and led me to a back room where the experience would take place. After I was bought refreshment and handed a “menu” of all of the scents could be mixed and matched, we got to work. The fragrance experience was one of the most interesting things I have ever seen, on the table in the fragrance room; there was a long line of glass jars with paintbrushes. Adam began to paint these fragrances on small canvases that were used as a vehicle to create a more natural smell as we continued on the path of choosing the scents that would go into the candle. The whole experience took about an hour and a half as I mulled over each scent and listened to Adam tell me the back-story of each scent.
Another aspect of the experience that was incredibly interesting was learning the history of not only Jo Malone but the recent history of the Jo Loves brand as a whole. Listening to Adam speak so candidly about “Jo, addressing her by name, as well as little quips and stories, such as the inspiration for the scent “Charred Lemons” came from Jo herself hosting barbecues and how she grills lemons and limes to rid the grill of the food smells, created such a casual, yet informative experience that made me feel as I had truly met and spent the hour and a half with her.
After quite a long time I finally had decided on my personalized candle scent, which was: White rose and Lemon Leaves as the base with Patchouli and Oakmoss as the shot scent. After I had made the final decision, Adam took a glass jar and then the base and the shot and used a blow torch to meld the scents. The combination of the two scents created an incredibly fresh and light candle that will burn differently each time that will create a completely different scent experience each time. I cannot wait to get home and start burning my candle. As Adam wrapped up my candle in the most beautiful white bag with red accents, I could not help but have the same feeling as Christmas morning. After such an incredible experience the candle shot was, I proceeded to book my own fragrance tapas appointment in which I will be able to design my own perfume based of the Jo Loves scents. While I am a huge fan of my Jo Malone scents, a blog post to come tomorrow on them, I am so excited to discover a new scent to wear, especially one that will be designed to me personally.
